WHO: Swine flu pandemic has begun

Quote From Source:

The World Health Organization told its member nations it was declaring a swine flu pandemic Thursday ? the first global flu epidemic in 41 years ? as infections climbed in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and elsewhere.

In a statement sent to health officials, WHO said it decided to raise the pandemic warning level from phase 5 to 6 ? its highest alert ? after holding an emergency meeting with its flu experts.

The last pandemic ? the Hong Kong flu of 1968 ? killed about 1 million people. Ordinary flu kills about 250,000 to 500,000 people each year.

  • The people at the WHO are absolutely nuts. People in this country a few weeks ago realized the swine flu was all hype and no substance. But the WHO insists on pushing the issue.

  • you know how I feel about — pushing the panic button too early is potentially a huge disservice to the masses.

  • This is a pandemic by the WHO’s definition. The danger of this bug is if it acquires the E627K mutation in the PB2 gene that made the 1918 flu more deadly, H5N1 bird flu more deadly, and makes seasonal flu so virulent. The mutation allows the flu to replicate at 33C, which is about the temp in a human nose, in the winter. Currently it doesn’t which gives it an advantage in the summer, but does makes it less virulent. The worry is if and when it gains that mutation, which is a higher probability since seasonal H1N1 influenza has it, and means they’re more likely to share cells and swap genes. It will be winter soon in the southern hemisphere. If that happens, there’s no doubt it’ll have a higher death rate. The fact that it targets 20-50 year old’s is eerie, because that’s what the last several pandemic influenza viruses have done. This still has alot of chance to get ugly.

    This is scary:

The First Nations people were decimated by the 1918 flu.

It’s not a forgone conclusion, but this is still an ominous bug. So is the H5N1 bird flu, but so far it’s managed to not spread so easily. This one already does.

  • Its a flu. You know how many thousands of people get the flu and die from it every day/week/month/year in the US? This is nothing more than an attempt to drive business to the pharmaceutical companies. Somebody stands to make an obscene profit from this and that is why the WHO is pushing this. If profiting from this was illegal we wouldn’t hear a word about Swine flu.

  • Once this is declared a pandemic doesn’t FEMA and DHS get some additional powers to disrupt lives? Seems that I remember when shrub was signing these executive orders that something got pushed that gave them some pretty sweeping powers. I wonder if they will implement them now?

YES it Does — another reason I think its all BS

  • I agree it is BS, but the powers that are given to FEMA and DHS are not. Once they get a taste of that power it will never be the same. Life is going to change and quickly for some. Those rules that have changed since 9/11 are onerous and requires a lot of documentation to comply. Of course, if the clerk or whatever decides that they don’t like your documents you are sent to acquire more documentation that will also likely be refused. I just got finished with the DMV here in New Mexico and it was a paper chase.

I was told that they didn’t accept printouts, until I reminded them that any printout from a computer was that way. Just a frustrating time to be dealing with these folks.

  • It really is sad the way government uses 9/11 as an excuse to do the things they do. What I find interesting is that most of the rule changes that have been made have absolutely nothing to do with how the 9/11 attacks were carried out. It was just used as an excuse to make immoral or unethical rule changes. Things that could never have been pulled off prior to 9/11.

  • In the Southern hemisphere where it’s winter the swine flu is spreading. It is now spreading from person to person in different regions of the world. This would make it a pandemic. Plain and simple, no hype, no BS, just definition. Not an incredibly deadly pandemic, but a pandemic. And Indy, just the “flu” can be incredibly dangerous.

The numbers are distorted in the US because they aren’t testing for it unless people are hospitalized anymore.

I got the flu the first week of May, then gave it to my husband and son. We’re both still coughing and wear out easily from it. We don’t know if it’s swine or not since none of us were swabbed, but it was in the area.

And the WHO isn’t even in the US so wtf does 9/11 have to do with it? This was already considered an epidemic in US, so our government already had the PTB out and running.

  • Swine flu spreads like every other flu. You don’t see press conferences every day on tv to talk about the flu. It is all about power and money. After people realize they are being fed a bunch of crap with Swine flu the WHO will come up with another name for a flu in a year or two and they will try the same BS all over again.

And the 9/11 reference had to do with abuse of power and the exploitation of a bad situation for the further gain of power by government.

If this Swine flu thing is a pandemic then we’ve really set the bar low. What we see here is a case of crying wolf again. Next time something severe like the plague comes up people will ignore the warnings. People might not be very smart in general but even they will figure out eventually that they are being deceived.

  • pan⋅dem⋅ic
/p?nˈdɛmɪk/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [pan-dem-ik] Show IPA
    ?adjective
    1. (of a disease) prevalent throughout an entire country, continent, or the whole world; epidemic over a large area.

It’s a NEW strain of the flu, a mixture that hasn’t been seen before. That is why it’s new on the order of things. And as I’ve said before I would rather know about a new strain then not know. And this made the news in the first place because of the original death rate.

  • It is the flu. It is no big deal. This whole pandemic thing is absolute nonsense. It is all about power and money. You can give it any pretty name you want. It is still just a flu.

  • I still feel Main-Stream-Media did a huge disservice by pushing
the panic button so soon – now people are treating this as a joke.

  • When you see how many people in the US alone get the flu every day and die from it this Swine flu thing is a joke. It is business as usual with a new name attached to it in order to drum up business. I know they like to mention it has elements of Bird flu in it. Bird flu was a joke too.

  • H1N1 Swine Flu acquires E627K mutation in the PB2 gene

    Quote From Source:

The recently released PB2 sequence from a patient (22F) in Shanghai (see updated map) contains E627K. This is the first reported acquisition of this change, which is present in virtually all human influenza A isolates, including the pandemic strain from 1918.

Acquisition of E627K is a concern because it allows for optimal replication at 33 C, the temperature of a human nose in the winter, in contrast to E627, which is in the avian version of PB2 and allows for optimal replication at 41 C, the body temperature of birds. The PB2 in the swine is of avian origin, and A/Shanghi/71T/2009 is the first public sequence from the circulating sub-clade with E627K.

    Quote From Source:

The acquisition of E627K creates concern that the virus will evolve into a more lethal agent that will be associated with an increased case fatality rate in previously healthy young adults, as was seen in the 1918 Pandemic.

I hope you’re right Indy, this is nothing. If this becomes fixed in the pool, it will be a deadlier virus than it is now, at the minimum. The E627K mutation is part of what makes seasonal flu as deadly as it is.

  • Buenos Aires mayor declares emergency to fight flu

    Quote From Source:

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) – The mayor of Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, declared a health emergency on Tuesday to help control an outbreak of the deadly H1N1 flu strain that has killed 26 people in the country.

Mayor Mauricio Macri urged city residents to stay at home as much as possible, saying the health emergency would remain in place through Friday. He said the measure would help different public services coordinate to combat the virus.

The Argentine government has confirmed 1,587 cases of the new strain of virus, also known as swine flu, which is spreading during the southern hemisphere winter.

Death rate decidedly higher in Argentina. It’s winter there, so it the PB2 E627K mutation has a better natural advantage. If they release the sequences we’d know for sure. Either way, this is no good.

  • Niman talks about it, also Tamiflu resistance (H274Y mutation) in a patient, and 200 cases in Thailand where 7 died (3.5%).

Keep an eye on that link. He’s usually ahead of news reporting on this stuff.

Congress passed a supplemental appropriation for $7.5 billion, which President Obama recently signed, to cover the costs of preparing for the virus, which includes a vaccination campaign, CDC spokesman Thomas Skinner said.

And right there is your motive…. er… whatever you call it. Someone has a government protected monopoly on the vaccine so someone stands to make a huge profit off of this “pandemic.”

I say this is a huge hoax and it is being done to rob us blind.

  • I say this is a huge hoax and it is being done to rob us blind.

    I honestly hope you’re right.

  • well, the money’s gotta come from somewhere!

  • Swine-Flu Similar to 1918 Flu

    Quote From Source:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The new H1N1 influenza virus bears a disturbing resemblance to the virus strain that caused the 1918 flu pandemic, with a greater ability to infect the lungs than common seasonal flu viruses, researchers reported on Monday.

Tests in several animals confirmed other studies that have shown the new swine flu strain can spread beyond the upper respiratory tract to go deep into the lungs — making it more likely to cause pneumonia, the international team said.

In addition, they found that people who survived the 1918 pandemic seem to have extra immune protection against the virus, again confirming the work of other researchers.

  • Since this thread was started over 3,000 people have died from the regular flu in the U.S. How many have died from this imaginary threat called swine flu? What about globally?

    http://www.google.com/hosted…glrK0rw6y4agAT-y8UmcQUDwf6NQ

According to that story which is a relatively new one 429 people globally have died. In this work week 500 people will die in the U.S. from the regular flu. Globally less than that have died since the beginning of this imaginary crisis.

By this time next week another 700 people would have died in the U.S. from the regular flu. How many globally from swine flu? 10? 20? 50?

Create a panic over nothing and rob people blind. Looks like they stole the Global Warming playbook.

  • yep, just more fear mongering…so far.

  • Drug groups to reap swine-flu billions

    Quote From Source:

Some of the world?s leading pharmaceutical companies are reaping billions of dollars in extra revenue amid global concern about the spread of swine flu.

Analysts expect to see a boost in sales from GlaxoSmithKline, Roche and Sanofi-Aventis when the companies report first-half earnings lifted by government contracts for flu vaccines and antiviral medicines.
